Saturable Absorber Mirrors For Passive Mode-locking
نویسندگان
چکیده
Saturable absorber mirrors (SAMs) are grown by low-temperature solid-source molecular beam epitaxy. The nonlinear absorber layer consists of one InGaAs quantum well. The devices have response times shorter than 10 ps and small non-saturable losses (less than 0.3%). SAMs with modulation depths between 0.6% and 2.0% were used to mode lock a Yb:KYW laser at around 1040 nm. The minimum achievable pulse duration and the output power decrease by increasing the modulation depth. Pulses as short as 100 fs were obtained with a 2% modulation depth saturable absorber.

Ultrashort pulse-generation by saturable absorber mirrors based on polymer-embedded carbon nanotubes.
We demonstrate passive mode locking of solid-state lasers by saturable absorbers based on carbon nanotubes (CNT). These novel absorbers are fabricated by spin-coating a polymer doped with CNTs onto commercial dielectric laser-mirrors. We obtain broadband artificial saturable absorber mirrors with ultrafast recovery times without the use of epitaxial growth techniques and the well-established sp...
متن کاملEffects of flake size on mode-locking behavior for flake-graphene saturable absorber mirrors
After advent of graphene as a saturable absorber many experiments have been conducted to produce short pulse duration pulses. Here, we have measured the properties of flake-graphene saturable absorber mirrors of various flake sizes dependent on fabrication technique. These mirrors enabled us to obtain a large mode-locking bandwidth of 16nm in an erbium-doped fiber laser. Mirrors with large flak...
متن کاملQ-switching stability limits of continuous-wave passive mode locking
The use of a saturable absorber as a passive mode locker in a solid-state laser can introduce a tendency for Q-switched mode-locked operation. We have investigated the transition between the regimes of cw mode locking and Q-switched mode locking. Experimental data from Nd:YLF lasers in the picosecond domain and soliton mode-locked Nd:glass lasers in the femtosecond domain, both passively mode l...

We have investigated passive mode-locking of Tm,Ho:YAG lasers with GaInAs- and GaSb-based semiconductor saturable absorber mirrors (SESAMs). With a GaInAs-based SESAM, stable dual-wavelength mode-locking operation was achieved at 2091 nm and 2097 nm, generating pulses with duration of 56.9 ps and a maximum output power of 285 mW. By using the GaSb-based SESAMs, we could generate mode-locked pul...

ONLINEAR fiber loop mirrors such as nonlinear optical N loop mirrors (NOLM) [1]-[3] and nonlinear amplifying loop mirrors (NALM) [3], [4] have been shown to have a great potential for fast optical switching for signal processing and all-optical communications [5], [6]. Recently, they have been used as a fast saturable absorber to passively mode lock fiber lasers. Generation and reshaping of pic...
